Position Overview

The Development Director is responsible for managing a comprehensive development program and related activities, including working in conjunction with staff coordinating covenant contributions of member congregations, developing and managing the annual giving and planned giving programs, recruiting and training volunteers involved in fundraising, providing leadership to the financial development council, researching and writing foundation grants, writing effective mailings, and managing and maintaining a database for tracking donors, donor prospects, gifts, and recognition in coordination with support staff.

Responsibilities
The Development Director will work closely with the Mission Operations Director and CEO/Mission Lead to ensure effective support for the financial development plan

 

  • Help coordinate, administer and evaluate the comprehensive financial development plan.
  • Help coordinate and encourage relationships with affiliated churches and their covenant contribution of member congregations through the faith share giving program.
  • Develop a fundraising general plan for the annual giving and planned programs each year in concert with volunteer leaders and other senior staff.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of the annual fundraising plan.
  • Help identify and cultivate potential contributors to the annual giving and planning giving programs, as well as special projects.
  • Help identify, cultivate and recruit volunteer leadership for financial development activities.
  • Train, support and motivate volunteers who are involved with fundraising development activities, including assisting volunteers with the planning and production of fundraising special events.
  • Support the Board of Directors in the area of fundraising and serve as a staff liaison to the financial development council composed of influential and affluent TM members.
  • Research foundations to identify potential sources of funding and prepare grant applications and progress reports.
  • Write fundraising mail appeals.
  • In coordination with support staff, maintain and manage a database for tracking: a) relationships with donors and donor prospects; b) pledges and gifts; c) donor recognition; and d) mailing and electronic lists.
  • Participate in developing and implementing communications and activities to support the financial development program.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in not-for profit financial development, including case development, prospect research, communication and cultivation, annual giving, major gift giving, planned giving, special events, board and committee development and planning, evaluation and goal setting.
  • Proficiency in e-Tapestry or other donor management system preferred.
  • Skilled communicator and motivator.
  • Strong financial development ability with a track record of proven results.

Salary is commensurate with experience, including full benefits.
