2008 Transforming Churches Conference

FEATURED SPEAKER

Dan Kimball is lead pastor of Vintage Faith Church, a new church plant in Santa Cruz, California. He is also a celebrated author of four--soon to be five--books (The Emerging Church, Emerging Worship, They Like Jesus, But Not the Church, and Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches.  His fifth book, I Like Jesus, But Not the Church: Following Jesus Without Following Organized Religion is expected to be released in Fall 2008).

Kimball is known in Christian circles as a theologically conservative voice in the emerging church discussion. He patterns his church after the "vintage" values of the original Christian church and teachings of Jesus - at the same time moving forward to what it means to be Church in a very different culture today.

Vintage Faith Church (VFC) was begun in 2004 by the Santa Cruz Bible Church where Kimball served as youth and young adult pastor. VFC is rethinking church and ministry and trying to live out their faith as missionaries would, engaging with the people around them and communicating Jesus' love in the language of the culture.  Due to the nature of VFC's worship approach and philosophy of ministry, it is attractive, in particular, to emerging generations and younger families.  However, they are finding their approach to "vintage Christianity" resonating with hearts from all generations.  A very high value in the church is honoring the older generations, who they view as mentors to the younger generation.

Dan is married with two daughters, and drives a rusty 1966 Ford Mustang.  He lived in Israel for several months studying the Bible on his own to see whether Christianity was a valid faith, or simply the religion of American suburbia.  Kimball is currently pursuing a D.Min., from George Fox Evangelical Seminary in Newberg, Oregon, where he serves as an Adjunct Faculty Secondary Lead Mentor.
